Agrasen Baoli
is one of the best Baoli. This is a historical monument. Maharaja Agrasen got build it. It is 60 meters long and 15 meters wide. This Baoli is famous for its amazing architecture. Agrasen Baoli is the oldest monument in Delhi.
The agrasen Baoli is in Delhi near Connaught place, Jantar mantar. This Baoli is designated a protected monument by the Archaeological Survey of India.
Under Ancient monuments and archaeological sites and Remains act 1958. It was Build King Agrasen. And in the 14th century, it was rebuilt during the Tughlaq or Lodhi period of Delhi saltant.
Architecture of Agrasen Baoli

This Structure is similar to the latter period of Tuglak and Lodi’s time. It is also said that Agrahari and Ugrasen’s forefathers of Agrawal society had built it. It contains Whale whale-shaped roof, a psychic shape. It is in verse shape. There are many types of stone. There is an oval shape of a well on the north side of Agrasen Baoli. Its diameter is 8 meters and it is dry most of the time in the year. During monsoon well fill with water so the water level is 4 or 5 feet. This well is covered with an iron grill. Nobody can fall mistakenly or knowingly. As the water level increases the stairs also covers with water.
Besides that, there you also get to see a mosque in the southwest. It has a tihra mehrabdar entry for entering in this. This Mihrab gate is on a sandstone pillar. One of the pillars was destroyed before.
Interesting thing to see in Agrasen Baoli
There are three interesting things in this Baoli to see. It is in vessel shape. It has more than 100 stairs as you go ahead with the stairs you get to see a well. its architecture and design are an attraction to people. There are mainly three things to see in this Baoli.
- Well which is covered with grill
- Small Mosque in the southwestern corner
- Mehrabdar gate.
- The pillar on which it is resting.
Horror place
It is also known as a horror place. It is said that many people died in this well. According to people, there comes a voice from the well that calls people and motivates them to jump in by hypnotizing them.
Neither we can give a guarantee in favour of this statement nor against it. This riddle can be solved only by going there. I also do not believe in this kind of thing.
Some untold facts about Delhi
There were more than 100 baolies in Delhi but now it is only 10 baolies. Agrasen baoli is one of them.
This boat was used for film shooting also like PK, Sultan, and mom, film.
In 2012 there was “one shoot of formula one modal”.
