Introduction:
Delhi Gate is the first gate Of Delhi which was built in the Mughal Period. It is a south gate. The Mughal Emperor Shahjahan built it in 1638 AD. It is made of red Sandstone. It is behind Chandni Chowk, Red Fort.
There is also the oldest cinema theater. There are very good shops for sweets and other foods. There are also biryani shops and meet shops so it is also a nice place for non-vegetarians. The Delhi Gate has the same design as North Gate Kashmiri Gate and it was built in 1857. This is very beautiful and large.
Features:
It is a red color gate and it has amazing architecture. It is built by Mughal Emperor and Delhi Gate is built in Mughal style. Its design matches something with Red Fort. It has two towers and two domes which attract people more.
In all gates, you get to see a V shape. Except there are two small flowers on the gate. There is a white grill ahead of the gate. As well as there is a board also of Delhi Gate.
The architecture of Delhi Gate:
Delhi Gate is a historical monument. There are used white marble, sandstone, and bricks to build it and it has one tower attached with a gate on both sides. It is named after the opening. It is surrounded by Shahjahanabad city and there are also big trees.
- It is located in the middle of the road at Netaji Subhash Chandra Marg, at the edge of Dariyaganj.
- The archeological survey of India maintained it. And it is a heritage site that connects the old walled city of Delhi.
History:
- The Delhi Gate has a high wall and, used to open toward the east side.
- A total of 14 gates in Shahjahanbad, Delhi including Delhi Gate was built. Now it is only five. The Mughal emperor built it
- The emperor used to go to the Masjid for prayer from this gate. In the Mughal era, the gate served as the main gateway.
- The gate was built for the safety of Shahjahanabad. Because it was a way to enter Delhi City it was named Delhi Gate.
Entry fees and timing at Delhi Gate:
- This gate is open for 24 hours and there is no ticket price to enter it. You can go any day of the week.
- It is in an open square area. And you can come here with your family and friends.
