Gandhi Smriti Museum: is a place where is memory of Mahatma Gandhi is. He is also known as the father of India. Because he had made a big contribution to making India free. If we say so which freedom you have gotten now, freedom of life, education political economic and social rights are because of him? He had made India free by his principle of non-violence. In the whole freedom fight there Gandhiji made a big contribution.

It is said that Gandhi had spent here his last 144 days and on this place, Gandhi was murdered on 30 November 1948. This museum is dedicated to Gandhi and there are many things and symbols of Mahatma Gandhi like his footprints, and thread spinning wheel. Etc.

History of Gandhi Smriti Museum

This was the house of Indian business tycoon Birla family, but now it is a museum of Mahatma Gandhi. There you will get to see all the small to big things of Mahatma Gandhi. Even his Sunglasses are here.

There are 12 bedrooms in it. Ghanshyam Birla built it. Sardar Patel and Mahatma Gandhi were regular guests of it. Jawaharlal Nehru had requested to convert one part of it into a monument. Ghanshyam did not agree to it but after a long discussion in 1971, this building was bought. According to the report, Ghanshyam Birla had also charged for fruits of trees.

  • Birla sold his property for 54 lahks and as well as 7 acre land. Which was a very profitable deal.
  • The Birla house opened for people on 15 August 1973.

And then it was given the name of Gandhi Smirti.

What is in Gandhi Smriti Museum?

Gandhi Smriti (Gandhi Museum) is on 5 January Marg 4km away from Connaught Place In New Delhi. This is also known as the Birla house. There you get to see, so many things related to Gandhi ji. Such as his Footprints. Different Types of Idols, his statement which had he said that is also written there, Thread spinning wheel. A very Big Garden, trees, beautiful flowers, a superb house and an Indian Flag on top of the house.

When you go inside, there is written a slogan ‘Satya Ahinsa”, which is a thought of Gandhi Je, or you can also say it is the principle.  There is a Decorated Lota also in front of the slogan. I want to tell you one more thing, there is a library also in the Gandhi Museum. There are a minimum of 60,000 books. The all things you will get to see in the Gandhi Darshan Session.

How to reach Gandhi Smriti Museum?

The museum is away from 4km of Connaught Place, on Tees January Marg New Delhi. To Visit Gandhi smriti you can take several vehicles.

Bus:  this is a very important vehicle at that time. It goes everywhere. You can’t take the bus to Zorawer sigh Marg, Mithai or Connaught place. The Connaught place is the nearest place to Gandhi Museum.

Metro: In The metro, the journey becomes so easy. There is too much space to stand and in less time drop you on your destination. There is a facility of AC that you will not have any problem with.

  • The Lok Kalyan metro station, Udyog Bhavan metro station on the Yellow line and Khan market metro station are near Gandhi Smriti.

Rickshaw: If it is not possible to travel by bus or metro you can go in rickshaw. A Rickshaw driver will drop you near to Gandhi Museum. Yes, he may deny it for some reason so you can ask him to drop you at Connaught Place, Mithai or Zorawar Singh Marg.
