Jama Masjid is the biggest mosque in the world. Lots of people come here daily. This monument was built by Shahjahan in 1650, and it took 6 years. There can be 25 thousand people. There is a beautiful ceiling in the prayer hall. Short dresses are not allowed and you have to remove your slippers before entering the prayer hall

It is located in Subhash Marg west of Red Fort. It is away 500 meters from Red Fort. Jama Masjid is the mosque of Delhi principle. And there people come on Friday for communal prayer. Location of Jama Masjid

The jama mosque is in the style of Mughal and Indo-Islamic architecture. It is 261 feet long and the mosque has 30 meter long lawn. It contains three gates, one courtyard and one prayer hall. The Zama Masalsalso has four towers and from it, you can see Delhi’s streets. It is one of the greatest mosques built in the Shahjahan period. It was the last monument built in Shahjahan and it is more big and beautiful than Tajmahal. He had wished to make the biggest and highest mosque Jama Masjid. The mosque’s height is more than Shahjahan’s Mahal.

The Jama word is taken from the jummah word. Every Friday there are prayers. It has a prayer hall of 61 feet long. It is 27 meters wide. Its three domes of jama mosque give it an attractive look. It has two thin towers that are 40 meters high. There are four towers. Jama masjid is copy of holy Quaran. This mosque is also known as Masjid-I-Jahanuma and it attracts all the world.

This mosque is open every day and it has two shifts. 7 Am to 12 Pm and 1:30 Pm to 6:30 Pm. So it is open two times a day. During prayer, visitors are not allowed. There are extra charges for INR (camera charge) ₹300.

How to reach Jama Masjid

Jama masjid is located in old Delhi 110006. Its nearest metro station is Chawri Bazaar on the Yellow Line. After leaving from the metro you can take a rickshaw to Mama Masjid.

Railway station: There is the nearest railway station to old Delhi. If you want to visit Jama Musjid you can take the bus to Purani Delhi. Bus no- 6 goes to the old Delhi railway station.
